Adam Smith has assembled a team of people to create AdamSmith.net -- a company with a mission of using the Internet to entertain people and to help them make better financial decisions.

There are hundreds of Web sites that claim to offer financial education. Adamsmith.net will use stories and metaphors to make even the most complex financial content comprehensible. Most of us are experiencing an information overload. We will attempt to distill what's important.

AdamSmith.net intends to offer interactive seminars on such topics as "How to check out an investment rumor" - "Using your financial software to save money on taxes" - "Stock hunting with the masters of Wall Street." We are working with two creative design firms in New York to bring these seminars to life. We are also developing editorial content, a searchable interview database, a video library of highlights from Adam Smith's television shows, and other useful features. If you have ever been a fan of Adam Smith's work, you should consider sending us an e-mail to enroll in a beta launch of one of our first seminars.

Background on Adam Smith

Adam Smith is a global brand name. The historical "Adam Smith" was the 18th century Scottish philosopher whose 1776 work, The Wealth of Nations, is considered the beginning of modern economics. The contemporary Adam Smith was given that pen name in New York magazine in 1966. Together, both Adam Smiths have made the name a familiar one to millions of people all over the world.

The contemporary Adam Smith pioneered a style of financial writing which made the language and concepts of Wall Street accessible to any investor. His first book , The Money Game, was a #1 best seller for over a year - this was followed by another #1 best-seller, Supermoney. His later books Paper Money, Powers of Mind, and The Roaring Eighties were also best sellers. Mr. Goodman was also a member of the Editorial Board of The New York Times.

In 1984, Adam Smith came to television as the anchor and editor-in-chief of Adam Smith's Money World, which ran for 13 years on PBS, and became the most honored program in its field, winning eight Emmy nominations and four Emmy Awards, as well as the Overseas Press Club Award. Adam Smith also created and anchored a follow-up show, Adam Smith's Money Game, on public broadcasting stations.

Adam Smith's Money World was shown in over forty countries and was the first American business news show broadcast in the Soviet Union. He routinely traveled the globe each year doing specials on countries and regions such as China, Russia, the Pacific Rim, Latin America, India, Israel -- turning his audience into experts on the trends and issues facing these regions.

The guests on his television shows included some of the 20th century's most interesting leaders: Warren Buffett, Peter Lynch, Alan Greenspan, Lee Kuan Yew, Mikael Gorbachev, George Soros, Jerry Yang and Tim Berners Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web.
